Library: Joint NTCIP Committee Y2K Statement Page Last Updated: October 20, 1998

The Joint NTCIP Committee recognizes the concern of everyone in regard to the Year 2000 or "Y2K" date problem. This statement is meant to assure all concerned parties that the NTCIP Standards do not promote or contribute to the problem.

NTCIP Global and Device Object Definitions define some information that is based upon a representation that involves the year. These representations do not explicitly or implicitly define any functionality that would result in an error when working with dates prior to, during, and after the year 2000.

The Y2K problem is not an issue of how the information is expressed. Rather, it is related to how the procedures and processing elements of an implementation handle the information. Users should understand that a particular implementation, WHICH IS BEYOND THE SCOPE OF THE NTCIP STANDARDS, may exhibit the problem.
