NTCIP 2102 is a subnetwork profile that references the protocols applicable to lowest two layers (data link and physical)in a communications stack. It calls for the use of PMPP (a variant of HDLC) at the data link layer and a 1200 bps FSK Modem at the physical layer. This configuration represents what has been traditionally used in closed-loop traffic signal control systems and some centralized control systems.

In May 2001 -- the Profiles WG proposed to the Joint Committee that 2102 v01.07 be accepted as a Recommended Standard.

In June 2001 -- the Joint Committee accepted 2102 as a Recommended Standard. Twenty-nine user comments had been received during the User Comment period, and had been resolved by the Profiles WG.

In February 2002 -- NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0066 sent 2102 v01.08 to AASHTO, ITE, and NEMA for balloting and approval.

Approvals -- NTCIP 2102 v01 was approved by NEMA in October 2002; approved by ITE in December 2002; and approved by AASHTO in March 2003. NTCIP 2102 v01 is Jointly Approved.

In July 2006 -- The published version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 2102:2003 v01.09 (September 2005 edition) was available as either a PDF download, or for order as a printed hardcopy with a softcover. To order the standard, point to the mouse-over menu "Deployment" >> Order Standards.
