NTCIP 2201 defines an NTCIP Transport Profile, which includes the requirements for the Transport and Network layers in the seven-layer ISO OSI Reference Model. The profile is a combination of standards intended to meet specific requirements for data communications transport services in a non-networked environment. In the case of non-networked communications, there is limited functionality associated with the network and transport layers. This document was previously called the “Null” transport profile.

The NTCIP Transport Profile links an NTCIP Application Profile to an NTCIP Subnetwork Profile.

In September 2000 -- the Joint Committee accepted 2201 version 01.09 as a User Comment draft.

In May 2001 -- NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0059 sent 2201 version 01.11 to AASHTO, ITE, and NEMA members for user comment.

In September 2001 -- the Joint Committee accepted 2201 v01.13 as a Recommended Standard.

In February 2002 -- NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0074 sent version 01.14 to the SDOs for balloting and approval.

Approvals -- NTCIP 2201 was approved by AASHTO in March 2003; approved by ITE in December 2002; and approved by NEMA in October 2002. NTCIP 2201 v01 is Jointly Approved.

February 2006 -- The published version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 2201:2003 v01.15 (September 2005 edition) was available as either a PDF download, or for order as a printed hardcopy with a softcover.
