In Fiscal Year 2002 -- FHWA funding was received to sponsor updates to the previous 9002 to 9004 case studies. In October 2001, a project team was selected and started work on the case study updates.

In October 2002 -- the Joint Committee on the NTCIP accepted the draft case studies amendments (including 9003 A1) as Recommended Information Reports.
